Undergraduates' Research Accepted For NCUR

Though disappointed that the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) was canceled last month, it did not diminish the depth and breadth of the work that Dominican students have accomplished this academic year.

Dominican typically sends one of the largest groups of students to this annual celebration of undergraduate research and scholarship. This year was to be no exception, says psychology professor Dr. Afshin Gharib, coordinator of Dominican鈥檚 NCUR group.

A total of 41 students were accepted to deliver 35 presentations at the annual conference, which attracts undergraduates from about 350 colleges and universities across the country and the world. The 34th Annual NCUR was scheduled March 26-28 at Montana State University.

鈥淲e had so many strong abstracts by dedicated students eager to present their research from across all disciplines,鈥 Dr. Gharib says.

While the students may be disappointed they were not able to present, they should be proud of their accomplishments. The inspiration for Dominican students to present at NCUR is the University鈥檚 ongoing focus on integrating research into the curriculum in all academic disciplines and The Dominican Experience.

NCUR鈥檚 gathering of student scholars welcomes presenters from all institutions of higher learning and from all corners of the academic curriculum. Through this annual conference, NCUR creates a unique environment for the celebration and promotion of undergraduate student achievement; provides models of exemplary research, scholarship, and creative activity; and helps to improve the state of undergraduate education.
