Chasten Buttigieg, Jon Meacham, Al Sharpton Lead Free Virtual ILS Fall Lecture Series
Chasten Buttigieg, husband of 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg, Pulitzer Prize-winning author and historian Jon Meacham, and civil rights leader Reverend Al Sharpton comprised the Fall 2020 Leadership Lecture Series presented by 果冻传媒 in partnership with Book Passage.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the lecture series, hosted by Dominican鈥檚 Institute for Leadership Studies, was free for the first time and made available live via on-demand.
, Tuesday, September 15, 5:30 p.m. In his book, I Have Something To Tell You, Buttigieg shared his experience growing up gay in his small Midwestern town, his relationship with Pete, and his hope for America鈥檚 future. He appeared in conversation with Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Andrew Sean Greer.
Approximately 3,200 people pre-registered for the virtual event.
, Thursday, September 24, 5:30 p.m. In his book, His Truth Is Marching On: John Lewis The Power of Hope, Meacham offers an intimate and revealing portrait of civil rights icon and longtime U.S. Congressman John Lewis by linking the civil-rights icon鈥檚 painful quest for justice in America from the 1950s to the present. He appeared in conversation with Clayborne Carson, who is a professor of History at Stanford University and Director of the Martin Luther King, Jr., Research and Education Institute.
, Thursday, October 1, 5:30 p.m. In his book, Rise Up: Confronting A Country At The Crossroads, Reverend Sharpton revisits the highlights of the Obama administration, the 2016 election, and Trump鈥檚 subsequent hold on the GOP, and share his decades-long experience with other key players in politics and activism, including Shirley Chisholm, Hillary Clinton, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and more. Rev. Sharpton was joined in conversation by Alicia Garza, civil rights activist and writer known for co-founding the international Black Lives Matter movement.
