Career Services
Thanks to a generous grant from the Arthur Vining Davis Foundations, Dominican is adding valuable new tools this fall that will help students and alumni plan and expand their careers and broaden their job search.
Among the services being added in fall 2019 by Career Development are two popular online platforms, Focus 2 Career and Handshake.
Dominican鈥檚 Career Development Services supports students throughout the career development process. The center assists both students and alumni in developing effective career planning skills to achieve their career goals.
鈥淥ur goal is to be strategic in helping students understand the career development process,鈥 says Stacy Davidson, Director of Career Services.
鈥淚t鈥檚 not just about resume and cover letter writing, but it also is about a journey that includes career exploration, internships, essential soft skill development, and many other factors.鈥
Focus 2 Career: Exploring Career Options
Students are encouraged to start using the Focus 2 Career platform their first year at the University in order to explore career options. Focus 2 Career provides assessments that allow results to be matched to majors and career options. The platform contains more than 1,000 occupations and up-to-date career information.
During their second and third years, students can use the platform to engage in career activities, including internships and part-time jobs. The program will then guide seniors as they prepare to embark on careers after graduation.
Handshake: Finding Jobs and Internships
When looking for a job or an internship, students now can access the popular Handshake platform. The online service helps students in all majors find jobs and internships and connect with companies and nonprofits throughout the United States.
Handshake matches students with internships, career fairs, and job opportunities based on their majors and interests.
Handshake has thousands of listings submitted by hundreds of employers across the United States. Handshake gives students direct access to organizations that are doing large scale recruiting. About 170,000 recruiters and more than 100,000 companies, which includes 95% of the Fortune 500, are part of the Handshake network.
鈥淭his is a great service,鈥 Davidson says. 鈥淥ur students will have immediate access to the latest openings at some of the country鈥檚 largest companies.鈥
